  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ cups 155g all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup 90g chocolate chips

Instructions

Prepare the Baking Pan & Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a 9x9-inch (23x23 cm) baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal. Lightly grease it.

Make the Brownie Batter

  • In a medium bowl, whisk melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
  • Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  • Stir in chocolate chips. Set aside.

Make the Cookie Dough

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream softened butter with both sugars until light and fluffy.
  • Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, stirring until combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips.

Assemble the Brookies

  • Spread the brownie batter evenly in the prepared baking pan.
  • Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough over the brownie batter. Gently press them in.
  • Optionally, swirl the layers slightly for a marbled effect.

Bake

  • Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Let brookies cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.

Notes

  • Don’t overmix the batter to keep the texture soft and chewy.
  • Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor.
  • For thicker brookies, chill the cookie dough for 15–30 minutes before assembling.
  • Storage: Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
